Doing better!

Pfritz had his 5th chemo last Monday and was sick pretty solid for 3 days, better one day and then sick again Friday and now has been good for 2 days! That’s his best reaction to chemo ever. We went 4 weeks between sessions this time and maybe that helped. He only has one more to go. I’m interested in knowing from others if doing a full 6 sessions is too much for dogs? Any feedback on that. Generally he’s getting around pretty good, walking and swimming. My brother built a balance board for him that we’re going to start with this week to help build up his strength and his balance.

Here’s Pfritz being lazy playing with his dinosaur.

  • Great photo! And I love hispicture at the top of the post! Very handsome boy!

Sorry he’s been having such trouble each time with chemo. Those kinds of side effects for that lengthof time dn’t happen very often. But that doesn’t help at all when it’s YOUR dog having that “rare” occurrence!
Okay…not a vet…and just my two cents worth…..from what I understand and from what the “norm” seems here, probably five doses of carboplatin is the amount widey used here for osteosarcoma…….some oncos. are now going with just four.

In Happy Hannah’s case, the onco. jst did four and said that a fifth was just “the icinging on the cake”. She said there are NO srudies showing a difference between four or five treatments.

With that said, and because Happy Hannah sailed hrough her treatments with no side effects, I think I would have pushed for five “just for good luck”! I do know one of the long term survivors here olh had four…..sorry I cannot recall who it was. Queen Nova perhaps?

Again, just my 2ยข worth, I would definitely stop at FIVE. Especially since he is having such a hard time with it! Time for him to start feeling good and be done with all this!

Happy Hannah is now almost eight months post amp (last chemo carboplatin middle of May) and continuing forward…knocking on wood over here!!

Please keep us posted, okay? Whatever you domis the right decision because it’s based out of love! If you do, however, stop at five, we need a NO MORE CHEMO CELEBRATION!!

Wishing you the very best! Co tiue to enjoy every sacred second and love and spoil and then love and spoil some more!!

  • Thanks Sally and Happy Hannah for your feedback! It’s so helpful to find out as much as we can about making all these hard decisions.

  • Hey Pfritz glad things are good. Number of chemo sessions really depends on each dog, most folks do five a few do six but it’s something you really want to discuss with your vet. Let us know what you decide.
